Ajman Free Zone

Ajman Free Zone company setup

Ajman Free Zone is the emirate's own authority, sitting beside Ajman Port with warehouses, industrial land and a trading licence — a different proposition from the small digital zones it gets confused with.

What Ajman Free Zone is

Ajman Free Zone is run by the Ajman Free Zones Authority and it is the emirate's own free zone rather than a private registrar operating inside it. It sits next to Ajman Port, with Sharjah and Dubai airports within an ordinary drive, and that position is the whole argument for it: this is a zone built for goods that physically arrive, sit somewhere and leave again.

It issues the standard free zone package — trade licence, constitutional documents and an establishment card the company sponsors residence visas against — and it holds full foreign ownership like every other zone on this list. What separates it is the estate behind the licence: business centres, executive offices, warehouses, onsite accommodation and land, alongside the digital-only packages that most zones now sell.

The authority also runs named hubs for particular sectors — e-commerce, AI and robotics, and a freelancer and pioneers hub — which in practice means a defined activity list and a package built around it rather than a general licence stretched to fit.

02

AFZ or ANC — they are not the same thing

We hold appointments with both Ajman authorities and they answer different questions. ANC — Ajman NuVentures Centre — is a newer, digital-first registrar with a broad activity list and no estate to speak of. Ajman Free Zone is the government zone with the port, the warehouses and the land.

If your business is a consultancy, an online operation or a founder setting up remotely, ANC is usually the shorter route and we will say so. If you are importing, storing, assembling or distributing anything at all, AFZ is the one with somewhere to put it, and a licence from the other zone will not conjure a warehouse into existence.

This is the sort of distinction that gets flattened into "an Ajman licence" by a firm holding one appointment. Holding both is what makes the comparison worth anything.

03

Who it fits, and who it does not

It fits traders and distributors who need storage, light industrial businesses, e-commerce operations that hold their own stock, and companies whose economics only work at a lower cost base than Dubai's. It fits businesses that want the port on their doorstep rather than a courier route to it.

It does not fit a business whose clients will look up the address and expect Dubai. It does not fit an activity regulated by somebody else — financial services, insurance, healthcare, education and legal practice all answer to their own authorities, and a free zone licence is not a substitute for that approval. And it does not fit anyone who needs to trade directly into the UAE domestic market as a local supplier, which is what a mainland licence is for.

The failure we see is the same one every low-cost zone produces: a licence bought on price that could not hold the activity the business actually traded in. We ask what you intend to do before we tell you where to do it, and in this emirate that question has two different right answers.

04

What being an appointed channel partner changes

We file with the authority directly rather than routing your file through another agent, and the queries come back to us in a channel we can answer on.

It also means the recommendation carries information. We hold appointments across six emirates, including both Ajman authorities, so recommending this one costs us nothing to say and nothing to avoid saying. When we send you to Ajman rather than to Dubai, we are giving up the larger fee.

Banking is the part to think hardest about with any lower-cost zone. Which banks onboard which activities from which emirate is a live question, and a licence you cannot open an account against is not a saving. We map that before you incorporate rather than after.

05

What it costs — and what we will not guess

Almas free zone company setup starts at a figure our client has confirmed in writing, shown on this page with its exclusions attached: the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical are charged per person, not per company.

We do not publish an AFZ-specific licence fee. It moves with the activity, the visa allocation and — in this zone more than most — whether you are taking premises, because a warehouse and a desk are not the same commitment. We quote in writing once we know which of those you need.

AFZ suits

  • Traders and distributors who need storage
  • Light industrial and assembly businesses
  • E-commerce operations holding their own stock
  • Businesses that want port access rather than a courier route to it
  • Companies whose economics need a lower cost base than Dubai

It does not suit

  • Businesses whose counterparties expect a Dubai address
  • Activities regulated by another authority — financial services, insurance, healthcare, education, legal practice
  • Anyone who needs to trade directly into the UAE domestic market as a local supplier

Free zone company setup

Visa, Emirates ID and medical not included

That is where our free zone setup starts — it is not a licence fee for AFZ. Which zone and package it reaches depends on your activity and your visa allocation, and we confirm your figure in writing before you pay anything. If you need residency with the company, the all-in package is from AED 10,799 and includes the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical.

AFZ questions we are asked

What is the difference between Ajman Free Zone and ANC?

They are two different authorities in the same emirate and we are an appointed channel partner of both. Ajman Free Zone is the government zone beside Ajman Port, with warehouses, industrial land and onsite facilities. ANC — Ajman NuVentures Centre — is a newer digital-first registrar with a broad activity list and no estate. If you need somewhere to put stock, it is AFZ. If you are a consultancy or an online business setting up remotely, it is usually ANC.

What licences does Ajman Free Zone issue?

A business licence covering trading, storage, import, export and distribution including general trading; an industrial licence for manufacturing and processing; a sole professional licence for freelancers in the authority's designated categories; and an e-commerce licence. Which one you need follows from the activity, not the other way round.

Can an Ajman Free Zone company rent a warehouse?

Yes — that is the main reason to choose this zone over a digital-only registrar. The authority's estate runs from business centres and executive offices through to warehouses, onsite accommodation and land. What that costs depends on what you take, so we quote it in writing rather than publishing a figure here.

How long does an Ajman Free Zone licence take?

We do not publish a turnaround, and we would treat any firm that does with caution. The pace of a file depends on your documents, your shareholding structure, whether attestation is involved and the authority's own queue — none of which we control. We will tell you exactly what your file needs before you pay anything.

Can an Ajman Free Zone company open a UAE bank account?

Yes, and this is the part to think hardest about with any lower-cost zone. Which banks onboard which activities from which emirate changes, and a licence you cannot bank on is not a saving. We map that before you incorporate rather than after.

How much does an Ajman Free Zone licence cost?

Almas free zone company setup starts from a figure the firm has confirmed in writing, with the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical charged separately per person. We do not publish an AFZ-specific figure, because it moves with the activity, the visa allocation and whether you are taking premises.
