RAKEZ company setup

RAKEZ (the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone) was formed in 2017 when two older bodies joined together. One was RAK Free Trade Zone, which had been licensing companies since 2000. The other was the RAK Investment Authority, which managed the emirate's industrial land. This is why RAKEZ is different from every other authority on this site.

It runs several business and industrial parks across the emirate, not just one tower or area. The parks are arranged by what a business needs: desks and offices at one end, and warehouses, workshops, yards and industrial land at the other. There is also an academic zone for schools and training providers.

It works like other free zones. You can own 100% of the company, and there is no minimum capital. You get a trade licence, company papers and an establishment card, which lets the company sponsor residence visas.

Almost every authority on this site only gives free zone licences. RAKEZ gives both free zone and non-free-zone licences. A non-free-zone company can do business in the Ras Al Khaimah local market, like a mainland company, but it is licensed by the same authority.

This helps if you really cannot decide between a free zone and the mainland. You do not have to change authority, address or process to switch. In the UAE, it is the easiest way to change your mind without a big cost.

It is not a shortcut around the rules. A non-free-zone RAKEZ licence is a different licence with different rules. A free zone company still cannot freely sell into the UAE local market without the right arrangement. What you get is one authority for both options. That is very convenient, but the law does not change.

There are two honest reasons. The first is space. RAK has industrial land at a price Dubai's industrial zones do not even try to match. If your business makes, stores or moves goods, this is usually the first authority to look at, not the last.

The second is the emirate itself. RAK is about an hour up the coast from Dubai. It has its own port and airport, and it has been building industry for many years: cement, ceramics, medicines and building materials. A factory business fits in well there, because that is the local economy.

But it is not a Dubai address. If your business needs clients to see a Dubai licence, RAK cannot give you that, and the money you save will not make up for it.

No fee, no timeline and no number of visas, on this page or in a quote. RAKEZ prices depend on the space more than any other authority we work with. An office desk, a flexible option, a warehouse and industrial land are four very different things, and one price would be wrong for three of them.

The same is true for timing. Getting land or a building involves steps that a licence-only application does not. Anyone who gives you a date is promising something they do not control.

For a RAKEZ company with a desk and a licence, that starting price is a fair guide. For anything with a warehouse, a yard or industrial land, it is not. We will give you a proper price for the space, not attract you with a number that would never be right.
