DWTC Free Zone company setup

Dubai World Trade Centre has been the city's centre for exhibitions and conferences since the 1970s. The free zone is much newer. It opened in 2015 and sits inside the World Trade Centre area on Sheikh Zayed Road, where the trade shows, conference halls and towers are.

It was made for the businesses that work around these events, and you can see this in its licences. As well as normal commercial, professional and general trading licences, DWTC has special licences for event management, e-commerce, family offices and virtual assets. The last two make it different. Very few UAE free zones have a proper licence for a family office or a virtual asset business. Most force it into a consultancy licence.

The address is part of what you pay for. A Sheikh Zayed Road address in the World Trade Centre area looks different to a partner, an investor or a bank than an address in a business park far from the centre. For advisory firms and investment companies, this really matters.

It suits event and exhibition businesses. This is where the zone started, and it makes the most sense for them: organisers, production companies, stand builders and agencies are licensed by the same authority that runs the venue. It also suits advisory firms, investment holding companies and family offices, which get their own licence type and an address that matches their work. And it suits virtual asset businesses that want a place with clear rules.

It does not suit any business that needs a warehouse or factory space, because there is none here. It also does not suit someone who only wants the cheapest licence. A central Dubai address has never been the cheap option.

Be careful with what you read about virtual assets. This area is regulated. You need more approvals than the free zone licence, and there are real rules about money, controls and the people running the business. Any firm that says a crypto business is as quick and simple as a consultancy licence is not describing the real process. We will tell you honestly if your case is worth trying.

DWTC gives seven types of licence: commercial, professional, general trading, e-commerce, event management, family offices and virtual assets. There are well over a thousand business activities to choose from, and you can have more than one activity on one licence if they fit together.

A company can be set up as a free zone establishment with one shareholder, a free zone company with several shareholders, or a branch of an existing UAE mainland or foreign company. Advisory groups often want the branch option but do not know about it. It lets an existing company work here without setting up and running a new one.

The special licence types have their own conditions. Family offices and virtual assets are judged on what you really plan to do, not only on the application form. The checks are stricter for them.

For a normal commercial or professional licence, it means we submit your application and the authority's questions come to us. For the special licence types, it means much more. Those applications are carefully reviewed, and good preparation makes most of the difference to the result.

It also means we will tell you when DWTC is not right for you. We work with every authority on our free zone list. If you only need a low-cost consultancy licence, we will not sell you a Sheikh Zayed Road address.

We give a written price for your case. Our listed free zone starting price is based on the lower-cost zones. It is not a fair starting price for DWTC, so we do not show it on this page.

A DWTC price depends on the licence type, the business activities, and whether you need a real office in the area or only a registered address. For family office and virtual asset licences, getting approval is a large part of the work. We price that separately, not as part of the setup fee.

If you run a normal consultancy or trading company, a lower-cost zone usually does the same job for less money, and we will tell you so. At DWTC you pay for the address, the special licence types, and an authority whose approval is respected by partners who check these things.

It is worth paying for if you are raising money, managing other people's money, working in a regulated area, or running an events business in the place where the events happen. It is not worth it for a two-person agency that only needs a licence and a bank account.
