UAQ Free Trade Zone company setup

Umm Al Quwain's free trade zone sits on the E311 about half an hour north of Dubai, which is the fact that decides almost everything about who it is right for.

What UAQ FTZ is

The Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone is the emirate's licensing authority for free zone companies, and it is deliberately positioned against Dubai rather than away from it: the zone sits on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road corridor, roughly half an hour from Dubai without entering it, with the emirate's own port on the other side.

It issues commercial, industrial and service licences, and the entity types are the familiar ones — a single-shareholder FZE, a multi-shareholder FZC, or a branch of a company registered elsewhere. Foreign ownership is full and the establishment card lets the company sponsor residence visas in the ordinary way.

Behind the licence there is a real estate: executive offices and co-working space on flexible terms, ready-built warehouses with office space attached, and industrial land on long leases. That combination — Dubai-adjacent, with land you can hold for a long time at a northern-emirates cost base — is the specific thing this zone sells, and it is a genuine proposition rather than a marketing line.

02

Who it fits, and who it does not

It fits businesses that need space more than they need an address: storage, light manufacturing, assembly, distribution, and anything whose margin is eaten by Dubai rent. It fits companies whose staff and customers are already on the northern side of the country. And it fits founders who want a licence and a warehouse under one authority rather than two.

It does not fit a business whose clients will read the address and expect Dubai — that is a real cost in some sectors and we will not pretend otherwise. It does not fit activities regulated by another authority. And it does not fit anyone whose plan depends on trading directly into the UAE domestic market as a local supplier, which needs a mainland licence wherever you incorporate.

The honest test is the drive. If someone in your business will make that journey several times a week, the saving is real. If nobody will ever go there and the address is the only thing anyone sees, ask us whether it is buying you what you think it is.

03

What being an appointed channel partner changes

We submit to the authority directly, so a query comes back to us rather than through an agent who marks it up and adds a day to every answer.

It also means we are comparing this zone against twelve others we could file with instead. We hold appointments across six emirates, five of the authorities in Dubai, so a recommendation to go north is one we are making against the more expensive alternatives that were available to us.

As with every lower-cost zone, banking is the question to settle first. Which banks onboard which activities from which emirate is live and changing, and a licence you cannot open an account against has not saved you anything.

04

What it costs — and what we will not guess

Almas free zone company setup starts at a figure our client has confirmed in writing, shown on this page with what it excludes attached: visa, Emirates ID and medical are per person, not per company.

We publish no UAQ-specific licence fee. It moves with the activity, the visa allocation and above all with whether you are taking a desk, a warehouse or land — three commitments that have no business sharing one headline number. We quote in writing once we know which one you need.

Visa, Emirates ID and medical not included

That is where our free zone setup starts — it is not a licence fee for UAQ FTZ. Which zone and package it reaches depends on your activity and your visa allocation, and we confirm your figure in writing before you pay anything. If you need residency with the company, the all-in package is from AED 10,799 and includes the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical.

UAQ FTZ questions we are asked

Where is the UAQ Free Trade Zone?

In Umm Al Quwain, on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) corridor — roughly half an hour north of Dubai by road, with the emirate's own port nearby. The position is the point of the zone: Dubai-adjacent, at a northern-emirates cost base.

What licences does UAQ FTZ issue?

Commercial licences for buying and selling goods, industrial licences for manufacturing and processing, and service licences for professional and advisory work. There is also a freelance permit for single practitioners. Companies are registered as an FZE with one shareholder, an FZC with several, or as a branch of a company registered elsewhere.

Can I get a warehouse or land in UAQ Free Trade Zone?

Yes. The zone offers offices and co-working space on flexible terms, ready-built warehouses with office space attached, and industrial land on long leases. That is the main reason to choose it over a digital-only registrar, and what it costs depends entirely on what you take.

Is a UAQ licence a problem for banking?

It is the question to settle before you incorporate, not after. Which banks onboard which activities from which emirate is live and changing. We will tell you what your profile is likely to face before you commit to a zone, because a licence you cannot bank on is not a saving.

UAQ or a Dubai free zone?

It comes down to whether anyone in your market reads the address and whether anyone in your business makes the drive. If you need space and your customers do not care where the licence was issued, UAQ is a real saving. If you sell to UAE corporates who will look you up, the Dubai difference is usually worth paying and we will say so.

How much does a UAQ Free Trade Zone licence cost?

Almas free zone company setup starts from a figure the firm has confirmed in writing, with the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical charged separately per person. We do not publish a UAQ-specific figure, because a desk, a warehouse and a land lease are three different commitments and one headline number would be wrong for at least two of them.
