Meydan Free Zone is in Nad Al Sheba, in the area around the Meydan racecourse. It is close to Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City and a short drive from Downtown and Dubai International Airport. Most lower-cost zones are not this central, and that is a big part of why people choose it.

It is one of the most digital Dubai authorities. Licences and residence visas are handled through one online portal. This means fewer visits in person, which helps business owners who do not live in the UAE full time yet.

It offers many business activities: professional, commercial and media licences with well over a thousand activities. You can usually have more than one activity on one licence. If your business does not fit into one box, this is worth more than a slightly cheaper licence somewhere else.

Meydan suits e-commerce businesses, marketing and creative agencies, all kinds of consultants, IT and software companies, and traders who buy and sell goods without their own warehouse. It suits people who want a well-known Dubai address without paying for Sheikh Zayed Road, and people who prefer to set up online instead of waiting in queues.

It does not suit businesses that need industrial space, a warehouse or a shop for customers. It does not replace a mainland licence if you want to sell directly to customers inside the UAE as a local supplier. And like every free zone, it does not replace the approval of the authority that controls your industry, if there is one.

One mistake to avoid: adding too many activities just because the licence allows it. The bank reads every activity on your licence. A licence with six unrelated activities looks like a fake company to a bank. Choose only what you will really do.

Meydan gives professional, commercial and media licences. A professional licence is for consulting and services based on your skills. A commercial licence is for trading, including general trading. A media licence is for advertising, communications, content and websites.

Each company gets a trade licence, company papers and an establishment card. The establishment card lets the company sponsor residence visas. Companies can be shareholders, but then you need attested (officially stamped) documents, and this is the step most likely to cause delays.

Because most of the process is online, what you submit must be correct. A well-prepared application moves forward. An incomplete one is sent back, and every time it is sent back you lose time.

This is the choice most of our clients are making, and there is no single right answer. Both are Dubai free zones with many business activities. Both suit service and small trading businesses, and neither needs you to rent an office.

The differences are in the details of your case: how your activity is classified, how many visas come with the package you need, how company shareholders are handled, and which one the banks will be happier with for you. You cannot see these differences on a website, including this one.
