01

What Meydan Free Zone is

Meydan Free Zone sits in Nad Al Sheba, in the district built around the Meydan racecourse and grandstand, close to Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City and a short drive from both Downtown and Dubai International Airport. It is central in a way most of the cost-led zones are not, and that is a large part of its appeal.

Operationally it is one of the most digital of the Dubai authorities. Licensing and residence processing run through a centralised portal, which reduces the amount of physical attendance a formation requires and makes it a practical choice for founders who are not yet in the country full time.

Its activity list is broad — professional, commercial and media licences covering well over a thousand activities — and more than one activity can generally sit under a single licence. For a business whose model does not fit neatly into one box, that flexibility is worth more than a marginally cheaper licence elsewhere.

02

Who it fits, and who it does not

Meydan suits e-commerce businesses, marketing and creative agencies, consultancies of every stripe, IT and software companies, and the trading businesses that move goods on paper rather than through their own warehouse. It suits founders who want a recognisable Dubai address without paying for a Sheikh Zayed Road one, and founders who would rather complete a formation through a portal than through a queue.

It does not suit businesses that need industrial space, warehousing or a customer-facing shopfront. It does not replace a mainland licence if your plan is to sell directly into the UAE domestic market as a local supplier. And as with every free zone, it does not substitute for the approval of a sector regulator if your activity has one.

The mistake worth avoiding here is over-stacking activities because the licence permits several. Every activity you add is one a bank's compliance team will read, and a licence that claims to do six unrelated things reads as a shell to someone assessing an account application. Pick what you will actually trade in.

03

The licence, and what sits under it

Meydan issues professional, commercial and media licences. A professional licence covers consultancy and expertise-led services; a commercial licence covers trading, including general trading; a media licence covers advertising, communications, content and web activity.

Companies are incorporated with a trade licence, constitutional documents and an establishment card, and the establishment card is what allows the company to sponsor residence visas. Corporate shareholders are permitted and bring attestation requirements with them, which is the step most likely to lengthen a file.

Because the portal handles most of the process, the quality of what goes into it matters more than usual. A well-prepared submission moves; an incomplete one bounces, and each bounce is a round trip.

04

What being an appointed channel partner changes

We submit directly, and we prepare the file so it does not bounce — the right activity selection, the right documents, and the corporate shareholder chain resolved before it goes in rather than after it comes back.

It also means the recommendation is genuine. Meydan and IFZA overlap heavily in who they serve, and firms that hold only one of the two will always find a reason it is the right one. We hold both, alongside seven others, so the comparison we give you is a real comparison.

05

What it costs

Almas free zone company setup starts at a figure the firm has confirmed in writing, shown on this page with its exclusions attached — the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical are charged per person, not per company.

We do not publish a Meydan-specific licence fee, because it moves with the activity, the visa allocation and the package. What we will do is quote your case in writing, and tell you plainly if a different zone gets you the same outcome for less.

06

Meydan or IFZA?

This is the comparison most of our clients are actually making, and there is no universal answer. Both are Dubai free zones with broad activity lists, both suit service and light-trading businesses, and both can be run without taking physical premises.

Where they differ is in the details that matter to a specific file: how your particular activity is classified, how the visa allocation is structured against the package you need, how corporate shareholding is handled, and which one your banking profile sits more comfortably against. Those differences are not visible from a marketing page, including this one.

So the useful thing we can offer is not an argument for one over the other. It is that we file with both, we have no commercial reason to prefer either, and we will run your actual requirement against both before recommending one.

Visa, Emirates ID and medical not included

That is where our free zone setup starts — it is not a licence fee for Meydan. Which zone and package it reaches depends on your activity and your visa allocation, and we confirm your figure in writing before you pay anything. If you need residency with the company, the all-in package is from AED 10,799 and includes the visa, the Emirates ID and the medical.

Meydan questions we are asked

Where is Meydan Free Zone?

Nad Al Sheba, Dubai — the district built around the Meydan racecourse and grandstand, near Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City and a short drive from Downtown and Dubai International Airport.

What licences does Meydan Free Zone issue?

Professional, commercial and media licences, across a broad activity list. More than one activity can generally sit under a single licence where the activities are compatible.

Can I set up a Meydan company without being in the UAE?

Meydan runs its licensing and residence processing through a centralised portal, which reduces the physical attendance a formation requires. Some steps around residency and banking still need you present. We will tell you which ones apply to your case before you book a flight.

How much is a Meydan Free Zone licence?

Almas free zone company setup starts from a figure the firm has confirmed in writing, with the visa, Emirates ID and medical charged separately per person. We do not publish a Meydan-specific licence fee because it moves with the activity and the visa allocation — we quote your case in writing instead.

Should I choose Meydan or IFZA?

They overlap heavily and the right answer depends on your activity classification, your visa allocation, how your shareholding is structured and your banking profile. We are an appointed channel partner of both and have no commercial reason to prefer either, so we run your requirement against both before recommending one.

How many activities should I put on the licence?

Fewer than the licence permits. Every activity is one a bank's compliance team will read, and a licence claiming several unrelated trades reads badly on an account application. Choose what you will actually do.
